Early in 2007, I was asked by film writer and director,
Vernon Mortensen, if I would be interested in being the director of photography for his next movie. After meeting with Vernon and discussing the project I became captivated by his passion for making films. And before I knew it, I was jumping head first into the world of movie making and cinematography.

It was a pleasure to have been able work with such a talented cast of people to create this touching and heartfelt movie. Being a part in the creation of this movie has inspired me to continue the art and practice of making movies, which I hope to post to this webpage in the future.

A powerful drama in less than 10 minutes... you bet. Inspired by actual events,
writer/director Vernon Mortensen wrote this screenplay for his wife, Kelly, after watching
her suffer through the sudden death of her father, just a month after the two were
married. The film’s producer, Neil Trusso, read the screenplay and knew that this was
something special. Less than a month after the final draft was finished, they were all on
location in beautiful Descanso, California, bringing this bittersweet short film to life.

PRESS RELEASE: Sept 2007: Unconventional Films will be screening its new short film, The Picnic, for cast, crew and investors at the Town Hall in Descanso, CA on October 13th, 2007. Producer Neil Trusso and Writer/Director Vernon Mortensen will be in attendance.
